The duct tightness limit  for Montana is 4 cfm per 100 Sqft when tested at 25 Pa.

    Did you know?
Duct leakage can account for as much as 25% of your homes total energy loss.

When do i need a duct test?

When part of the heating ductwork is located in unheated/unconditioned space, such as in a garage or attic, the entire ducting system must then be tested for tightness.

When do i schedule the test?

Total Duct Leakage Test: This test should be scheduled a week prior to sheetrock. Although a post construction duct test called (Leakage to Exterior) can be performed we recommend performing total duct leakage tests until you’re consistently passing. If ducts are unsealed you may occur unnecessary expense to seal properly, if scheduled post construction. Leakage to Exterior Duct Test: Scheduled with blower door test.

What’s the difference between a total duct leakage test and a leakage to exterior duct test?

Total duct leakage test measures the total amount of leakage across the entire system including both within the building envlope and to the outside.

Leakage to the outside duct test measures the amount of leakage to the outside of the thermal envlope by simultaneously pressurizing the house while pressurizing the ductwork, and measuring the amount of flow that is required to equalize the pressure.
